Couples Therapy for New Parents

Couples Therapy for ADHD and mix-ed neurotype couples

You love your partner, but sometimes it feels so hard to work as a team…

Love is powerful, but it doesn’t automatically resolve the complexities that each of you brings into the relationship. You and your partner have your own histories, past experiences, and patterns of emotional expression. Maybe one of you is neurodivergent, and the other is neurotypical. Maybe you and your partner come from different cultures, and sometimes those cultures clash. Maybe one of you grew up in a household where emotions were rarely discussed, while the other was encouraged to express feelings openly. These differences, when left unaddressed, can lead to misunderstandings and conflict. That’s probably why you’re reading this.

You entered your relationship with dreams, hopes, and expectations—some clear, others unspoken. As time has gone on, you’ve found that the reality doesn’t always match what you envisioned. Maybe  you’ve felt  disconnected, misunderstood, or frustrated by your partner. While resentment might’ve grown, this doesn’t  have to define your relationship. In couples therapy, we’ll work together to identify and communicate those expectations that have gone unmet, understanding which ones are realistic, which can be negotiated, and which may need to be adjusted. This mutual understanding forms the foundation for a relationship where both partners feel heard, valued, and connected.

Therapy for New Parents

Bringing a new life into the world is a profound experience, but it can also be overwhelming for couples. You’re prioritizing your new baby, and this is making it difficult for you to find the energy to give your partner. It feels like you’re on an island, and it’s lonely. You might find yourselves struggling with communication, feeling isolated in your roles as new parents, or dealing with unexpected emotions that strain your relationship. These challenges can affect your connection and overall well-being as a couple, but you don't have to face them alone.

Couples therapy can provide the support you need to navigate this transition together. We’ll work to strengthen your communication and enhance your connection, helping your relationship remain strong as you embrace parenthood.
